Hey, I am Haris, student of St. Xavier’s University, Kolkata. There’s a certain rigor in the coursework that keeps me on my toes, but I thrive in that challenge. The professors here, with their depth of knowledge and often quirky ways of teaching, make learning a lot more engaging. Whether it’s a class discussion that spirals into an intellectual debate or an assignment that forces me to think beyond the textbook, every day is an opportunity to expand my horizons. But honestly, the essence of being a student here isn’t just about the academics—it’s about the experience, the friendships, and the countless memories made between lectures, campus fests, and coffee breaks at the canteen.
Outside the classroom, I am a photographer. Not just someone who clicks pictures for the sake of it, but someone who sees the world through a lens, quite literally. Photography, for me, is more than a hobby; it’s a way of storytelling. It’s about capturing fleeting moments, emotions frozen in time, and perspectives that words sometimes fail to convey. Whether it’s the bustling streets of Kolkata, the golden hues of a Howrah Bridge sunset, or the intricate details of everyday life that most people overlook, I find beauty in the ordinary. There’s something deeply satisfying about composing a perfect shot, adjusting the lighting just right, and then seeing the final image come to life. My camera is like an extension of my vision, allowing me to share my perspective with the world.
It’s also one of the reasons I love Kolkata so much. This city is a photographer’s paradise—a place where tradition and modernity coexist, where every street has a story, and where history lingers in the air. I have spent countless afternoons roaming around College Street, capturing the raw passion of book vendors and students, or venturing into Kumartuli, where artisans sculpt idols with a precision that is nothing short of divine. Kolkata has a soul, and my camera helps me translate that soul into frames.
Now, when I’m not buried in assignments or lost behind my camera, there’s a good chance you’ll find me binge-watching The Office—yes, the legendary mockumentary that somehow turns the mundane into comedic gold. I don’t just watch The Office; I live it, breathe it, and quote it in conversations that often leave my non-Office-fan friends confused. Michael Scott’s absurd leadership, Dwight Schrute’s unshakable weirdness, Jim Halpert’s effortless sarcasm, and Pam Beesly’s quiet strength—each character is an emotion, a feeling, an experience. And, of course, I’ll argue with anyone that the Jim-Pam love story is one of the best ever written for television.
There’s something incredibly comforting about watching Dunder Mifflin’s dysfunctional yet oddly heartwarming dynamics unfold. On stressful days, a few episodes of The Office are my go-to therapy. It reminds me that even in the most ordinary routines, there’s room for laughter, friendships, and unexpected adventures. I’d like to think that if I worked in an office someday, I’d be a mix of Jim and Pam—with Jim’s pranks and Pam’s creative spirit, but definitely not Michael’s management style (though I’d love to scream “That’s what she said” at inappropriate moments).
So, that’s me in a nutshell—a student of St. Xavier’s University, constantly juggling academics and passion, a photographer obsessed with capturing the world through my lens, and a hardcore The Office fan who probably quotes the show more than necessary. Life is a mix of structured schedules and spontaneous adventures, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
